About us

The nursery has 78 places shared between morning and afternoon sessions. These sessions run from 9am to 11.30am and 12.30pm to 3pm on weekdays.

Knaphill Nursery follows the new Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. During the week, the children take part in a variety of free choice and focused activities which relate to the six areas of the curriculum:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication, language and literacy
  • Problem solving, reasoning and Numeracy
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Physical development
  • Creative development
  • The Nursery environment

Both indoor and outdoor play is encouraged. Play is an essential part of the daily curriculum. Through play, the children develop physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially.

The indoor space is used effectively by dividing the main nursery room into distinct areas. Part of the room has soft furnishings including cushions for the children to engage in co-operative play, role-play or to sit quietly and comfortably in the book corner. This area is also used when staff members are telling stories to a group. We also have a themed home corner and dressing up area to stimulate the children's imagination and encourage social development.

The other part has a tiled floor where the more creative activities, such as sand, water, modelling materials, paint and drawing, can take place.

A selection of puzzles, games, small world figures and construction materials are available.

The Nursery also houses computers with internet access and an interactive whiteboard for small group and supervised activities.

The children have access to the Nursery garden and outdoor play area, with all-weather surfaces, which allows the children to run, explore, and develop their gross motor skills. We also have access to the Woodland Enclave- a woodland garden with a small 'wildlife' pond, which is completely surrounded by fencing with access only through a gate which is kept padlocked.

    A healthy school

To promote the development of healthy eating habits, drinking water is available throughout the session. Children are encouraged to help themselves.

During each session, the children have fruit time with their key worker and group. This also provides a time for the children to share their news with others and talk about what they have been doing.
