KNAPHILL LOWER SCHOOL

Federated with Knaphill School

Welcome to Year 2!

By the end of Year Two our aim is for the children to be confident, enthusiastic learners, ready for Key Stage Two and the transition to the Junior School. Children are given more responsibility in Pupil Parliament meetings and learn about their rights and responsibilities. They learn to care for the environment and to make the right choices to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

Topics such as ‘Pirates’,  ‘British Wildlife’ and ‘Continents’ help to engage children in their learning and themed weeks such as ‘Book Week’, ‘International Week’ and ‘Fairtrade Fortnight’ are fully participated in. Children have the opportunity to dress up for theme days and explore their creative sides with junk modelling and international art work.

End of Key Stage tests are completed during May and teacher assessment levels of attainment are passed on to parents and Year Three teachers.  Homework is introduced after Christmas on a weekly basis and all children are expected to learn spellings and read on a daily basis at home.

Highlights of the year include their educational day trip, which has been to ‘The British Wildlife Centre’, ‘Painshill Park’ and the ‘Look Out’ in recent years. Year Two culminates in an impressive Leavers’ Play – remember to bring your tissues!
