PARENTS

Note: this is extracted from the School Prospectus - click on the link on the left for the full text.

The relationship with parents is extremely important. As partners in the learning process we can together provide the best possible education for your child. We welcome parents into the school, to help inside or outside the classroom. All helpers and volunteers are required by law to be CRB (criminal record bureau) cleared. Staff are always ready to discuss any delights or concerns you may have. We hold Parents Evenings each term, but parents are encouraged to talk to their child's teacher informally at the end of a day. Meet-The-Teacher mornings/afternoons are arranged for Years R, 1 and 2 in the first half of the Autumn term and parents are encouraged to let their child show them around their new classroom. Regular workshops are held for parents, providing an opportunity to learn about the curriculum, and parents are invited to talks on Reading at the start of their child's first term. Newsletters and correspondence keep parents informed of events, dates, initiatives and of each term's curriculum, topics and learning. Class Parent Representatives keep parents informed of class events and news. Parents are invited to the children's Celebration Assemblies and Events and, with Grandparents to the end of year Leavers' Assemblies, as well as to individual class celebration assemblies on special themes.

At the end of each Summer term, you will receive a full report summarising your child's achievements during the year.

The Governors present an annual School Profile to parents. Parents may access copies of the profile from this website address - www.parentscentre.gov.uk/schoolprofile

Copies of school policies and the most recent OFSTED report are available in the School Reception area.

Parent Teacher Association

We are fortunate in having an active and committed combined "infant and junior" school Parent Teacher Association (PTA). An enthusiastic and hardworking Committee meets on a regular basis to arrange fund raising and social events. Parents are encouraged to become actively involved and to support the events it organises.

Home School Agreement

As part of the partnership with parents we have a statutory requirement to provide a Home-School Agreement which is signed by the Headteacher and parents as an acknowledgement of everyone's commitment to your child's learning in our school. Parents are made aware of this agreement for signing when they attend the Induction Evening.

Helping your child at home

Your interest in what your child does at school and the time you give to it is very important and shows your child that you care about their learning. Sharing a book together is a good way of encouraging your child to read. Learning songs and rhymes off by heart will help to develop your child's memory. Encouraging your child to become independent by dressing and undressing themselves will help your child in the transition from home to school. Children enjoy playing games and this helps them to learn how to count, how to share and how to cope with winning and losing.
